While there had been murmurs that we were close to a deal overnight on Wednesday and heading into today, it’s finally happened. Or at least it appears to have based on reliable reports.
Liverpool have finally gotten their long-awaited star winger signing across the line and the Bradley Barcola saga is finally nearing its true end. Per David Ornstein of The Athletic today, Liverpool FC and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement over fee with around £100M of it guaranteed and the potential for the fee to rise to £120M with add-ons.
That base fee of £100M of thereabouts was probably what most thought Liverpool would be comfortable with, and given the larger state of the market it’s hard to argue over bonuses potentially taking the package to £120m if the player works out for the Reds.
In Barcola, Liverpool have a winger who’s going to supercharge Iraola’s system, and now they can finally (hopefully) move on to fixing their many other needs, like adding another winger or finding themselves a defensively-minded midfielder.
