Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, sent another powerful statement to the rest of Africa on Sunday, completing an emphatic 11-0 aggregate destruction of Guinea to book their place in the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Having already dismantled the Guineans 5-0 away from home in the first leg, the Flamingos returned to the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne and delivered an even more ruthless performance, cruising to a 6-0 victory in front of their home supporters.
The result sealed an overwhelming 11-0 aggregate triumph and moved Nigeria just one hurdle away from securing a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
For a team still being described as “a work in progress” by head coach Akeem Busari, the Flamingos looked every inch a side ready to conquer Africa once again.
Flamingos Coach Refused To Celebrate Early
Ahead of the second leg, Busari repeatedly warned that the qualification tie was far from over despite the commanding first-leg lead.
The coach insisted that his players must remain focused and continue developing the mentality required to compete at the highest level.
“Like I said before the first game, the team is still in a building process,” Busari said.
“What we did in Guinea has passed in Guinea.”
“We want to continue from where we stopped. It is not about changing the team, it is about consistency and what we want to inculcate in them.”
“It is about team mentality because the Guineans want to fight back and show their strength. We want to see how our players respond in this kind of situation. These are the things that will help us when we get to more challenging levels.”
Busari also stressed that no opponent should ever be underestimated.
“I don’t write any team off when we come into tournaments. Every team has a role to play and, at the end of it all, one team will win.”
“We will not leave any stone unturned. We want them to know that this is Nigeria and we know how to do it better.”
Even with a five-goal cushion, the coach viewed the return leg as a crucial opportunity for the team.
How The Flamingos Built Their First-Leg Advantage
Nigeria had virtually ended the contest in the first leg played at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
The Flamingos exploded into life from the opening seconds.
Captain Harmony Chidi opened the scoring inside the first minute before doubling Nigeria’s advantage in the 13th minute with a stunning strike from outside the penalty area.
Coach Busari’s side dominated possession and territory throughout the contest and were rewarded again in the 37th minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi made it 3-0.
Three minutes later, Chidi completed her hat-trick and Nigeria’s fourth goal of the evening.
The second half brought more misery for Guinea as Mary Dunstan added a fifth goal in the 56th minute to complete a comprehensive 5-0 victory.
The result left Guinea facing a near-impossible task heading into the return leg.
Guinea Arrived Hoping For A Miracle
Guinea coach, Amadou Kain Camara remained optimistic despite the crushing defeat in the first leg.
Before the match, he praised the hospitality shown by Nigeria.
“Before I start, I really want to appreciate the Nigeria Football Federation for the way they received us and welcomed us.”
“They made us feel at home.”
“We know Nigeria are a strong side and we have also prepared for this match. We believe that as we enter this match, we are going to do our best.”
“Camara also insisted his team would continue fighting despite the deficit.”
“We know we lost 5-0, but we have prepared and we are ready for this match. We are ready to do our best to make sure we come out victorious.”
Guinea captain Aicha Kouyate echoed the confidence.
“We are going to do everything possible to see how we can play this match and win.”
“Unfortunately for the visitors, reality proved far different.”
Flamingos Turn Ikenne Into A Goal Festival
From the opening whistle in Ikenne, Nigeria showed no intention of protecting their lead.
Instead, they attacked relentlessly.
The breakthrough arrived in the ninth minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi finished confidently to make it 1-0.
The goal immediately set the tone for another one-sided encounter.
In the 21st minute, first-leg hat-trick hero Harmony Chidi struck again to double Nigeria’s lead.
Just two minutes later, Queen Joseph joined the party, making it 3-0 as the Flamingos overwhelmed Guinea with wave after wave of attacks.
Adegbuyi grabbed her second goal of the afternoon in the 32nd minute.
Before Guinea could recover, Chidi struck once more in the 34th minute to complete her brace and send Nigeria into halftime with a staggering 5-0 lead on the day and 10-0 aggregate.

No Mercy After The Break
Despite the tie already being effectively over, the Flamingos maintained their intensity.
The hosts continued to dominate possession, create chances and suffocate Guinea’s attempts to respond.
Their persistence was rewarded again in the 70th minute when Precious Oscar added the sixth goal of the afternoon.
The final whistle confirmed a remarkable 6-0 victory and an even more astonishing 11-0 aggregate success.
