Former Super Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh has said Nigeria is still suffering from years of poor football development and lack of investment in infrastructure.

Speaking on the state of Nigerian football, Oliseh said the failure to build proper structures continues to affect the game today.

“What happened in 2002 was a big thing, it affects them till today. We deserve to have better infrastructures.

“Football is the number one sport in our country, football business is very vibrant.”

The former Super Eagles midfielder also stressed that youth competitions should not take precedence over rebuilding the domestic league.

“Talk about how to make the league interesting by increasing the prize money. Football is an industry on its own which is worth billions.”

Oliseh has consistently been one of the strongest voices calling for reforms in Nigerian football, urging authorities to invest more in sustainable development.

During his playing career, Oliseh earned 63 international caps for Nigeria, winning the 1996 Summer Olympics football tournament gold medal and the 1994 AFCON title.

He also went on to serve as head coach of the Nigerian national team.
