Victor Osimhen is working against time to be fully fit for the highly anticipated Istanbul derby in the Turkish Süper Lig on Sunday.

According to Turkish sports journalist Kaya Temel, Osimhen is expected to undergo intensified training sessions in the coming days, with his availability for the starting lineup still uncertain.

“Osimhen will do extra work for the derby. At the end of these sessions, it will become clear whether he will start in the starting 11 for the Fenerbahçe match based on the tests,” Temel said.

“It would be a mistake to say today, ‘Osimhen will definitely start.’ He wants to play in the derby himself. It will become clear in the next two days.”

Galatasaray have confirmed that the Nigerian striker has already returned to full team training, completing an entire session with the squad during the latest practice.

However, his match fitness remains under close assessment.

Sports journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu also reported that Osimhen’s recovery is being carefully monitored.

A possible return to action depends on how the forward’s treatment progresses in the final days before the match.

He added that while there is a chance Osimhen could feature in the upcoming cup fixture, the club’s primary objective is to ensure he is fully fit for the derby.

Osimhen travelled with the Galatasaray squad for their match against Gençlerbirliği last weekend, but did not feature.

Galatasaray currently sits top of the Süper Lig table, holding a four-point lead over rivals Fenerbahçe.

With the title race heating up, Osimhen’s return will be a major boost for Gala, given his status as their leading goal scorer.
