Spread the love

This week we’ve asked for your help in picking the ultimate Halloween candy in what we called “MUNCH MADNESS.” After all the votes were tallied, debates were had, and lobbying is done we have declared a winner.

Before we get to who cuts down the Halloween net, we need to establish the method for how we did this. It began with 64 candies seeded into four separate divisions, March Madness style. This was done to both divide candies into basic genres, but also ensure we didn’t end up with a pure chalk Final Four. These division were:

  • The Reese’s Division: A total of 16 different products Reese’s currently sells on the market right now. This meant that Pumpkins could be included, but not Easter Eggs
  • The Fruit Division: From the chewy to the hard, and everything in between — these are the candy which broadly represent fruit flavors
  • The Chocolate Division: All non-Reese’s candy with a predominant chocolate overtone were put on the opposite side of the bracket from Reese’s. This was done to ensure we wouldn’t (potentially) have a bye into the final for a fruit candy
  • The Sickos Division: Either truly disgusting candy, or items that don’t even classify as “treats” that a child can receive on Halloween. This is our nod to the grossest, desperately traded items of the season

If you want to see the full round of 64 you can find them in The Feed, with links below. When we reached the Sweet 16 we went to pure staff voting. Scores are dictated by ratio.

  • Reese’s 1st round — Reese’s 2nd round
  • Fruit 1st round — Fruit 2nd round
  • Chocolate 1st round — Chocolate 2nd round
  • Sickos 1st round — Sickos 2nd round

Drumroll please …

TWIX IS THE WINNER OF MUNCH MADNESS

As George Costanza said: “Twix is the only candy with the cookie crunch.” Now, I should note we have a little voting day mishap with some votes coming in after the deadline that would have pushed this final into a runoff. It was a tight race, and both chocolates should be proud — but in the end Twix is the perfect divided candy for our fractured time.
