Dutch defender Perr Schuurs has conceded that Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare poses a distinctive threat unlike almost any attacker he has faced throughout his football journey.

The former Torino centre-back shared his candid assessment after enduring a demanding battle against the Super Eagles international in Ajax’s 1-1 stalemate with NEC Nijmegen at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Arokodare made a major impact during the fixture, executing a brilliant header that showcased his commanding aerial prowess, formidable strength, and relentless appetite for direct service.

Having plied his trade in the Eredivisie for four seasons alongside a stint in Serie A, Schuurs has gone toe-to-toe with elite strikers across the continent. Even so, the Nigerian’s profile presented a completely novel test—a sentiment previously shared by former Ajax manager Peter Bosz.

Speaking to De Telegraaf following the match, Schuurs admitted he anticipated a grueling contest, but the reality surpassed his expectations once the whistle blew.

Despite matching up against established powerhouses like Romelu Lukaku while playing in Italy, Schuurs pointed out that Arokodare’s target-man tendencies set him apart. He noted that while observers might compare the two, the 25-year-old actively seeks out aerial battles and chest receptions far more consistently than the Belgian star.

Currently on loan at Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers since July, Arokodare’s deal includes an option for a permanent switch. Regarded by Jan Wuytens as a truly unique talent, the striker has enjoyed a prolific beginning in Amsterdam, tallying seven goals and providing two assists over 10 outings across domestic and European competition.
