Werder Bremen have confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface will return to parent club Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season following the completion of his loan spell.

Boniface joined Werder Bremen last September after securing a season-long loan move from Bayer Leverkusen on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window.

The move was aimed at helping the Nigerian forward secure more regular playing time and regain momentum in his career.

However, his spell in Bremen was heavily disrupted by injury, preventing him from making the impact many had anticipated.

Boniface featured in only 11 matches for the club, failing to score while providing two assists during a difficult campaign.

The 25-year-old suffered a serious knee injury in early December 2025, which sidelined him for 109 days and forced him to miss 20 consecutive Bundesliga matches.

In January 2026, Boniface underwent surgery to treat severe cartilage damage in his right knee.

The procedure took place in January and was carried out by renowned knee specialist Christian Fink in Innsbruck, Austria.

Following months of rehabilitation, Boniface resumed parts of his recovery programme at Bayer Leverkusen on March 30, before eventually returning to Werder Bremen.

Boniface is expected to return to Bayer Leverkusen next season and work toward rediscovering his best form in the summer.
