Bright Osayi-Samuel has firmly denied reports claiming he demanded excessive wages to renew his contract with Fenerbahçe, clarifying the circumstances that led to his departure.
“Many journalists in Turkey make up stories to get attention, but for me, the club knows that I never asked for a contract.
“What happened was that at the beginning of the season, Mario Branco offered me a contract, and we accepted it. But at that time, I was changing my agent. Because I remember a journalist named Yağız tweeting on Twitter before the season about me demanding money, and I had no idea about it I knew nothing.
“Then I saw a message from my old agent showing that he had discussed this with the journalist behind my back, and it really pissed me off.

“When I saw that, I wanted to part ways with my agent and sign with a new one. But I didn’t want to sign an agreement with him because I didn’t want him to take a cut of the money or anything. When I found a new agent, we agreed with Mario Branco that I would sign the deal, and I think that’s where the rumors started.
“I think I should have ignored it as much as possible because you always hear such stories in Turkey, but this really got to me. Because I’m even grateful for playing at Fenerbahçe.

“So I would never demand such a ridiculous amount. I think this is just football, and I’ve learned from it.”
Osayi-Samuel also dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Beşiktaş, insisting he never intended to join their rivals.
“The agreement made with Beşiktaş was one made with my former manager. It had nothing to do with me or my father.
“My father is a die-hard Fenerbahçe fan, really die-hard. Even if I wanted to sign with Beşiktaş, my father would never let me go.
“Beşiktaş spoke with my former manager and wanted me to come. I didn’t want to, I didn’t want to disrespect Beşiktaş but I wanted to go home. Either Fenerbahçe or going home.”
The Nigerian international eventually left Fenerbahçe as a free agent after failing to reach an agreement over a new deal.
He has since joined Birmingham City on a three-year contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028.
